Chuckers win Aldergrove Fall Ball ClassicThe Richmond Chuckers are Fall Ball Classic Champions...

The split-squad Chuckers went 6-0 over the last week to win the 5th Annual Aldergrove Fall Ball Classic Tournament.

The Chuckers opened the tournament with a come-from-behind 5-4 win over a tough White Rock Tritons squad on Tuesday night.  Richmond scored three times in the top of the 7th inning, setting the tone for weekend play.

10-2 and 10-1 wins over the North Shore Twins 2 and the Vancouver Mounties followed on Friday night and Saturday morning.

On Saturday afternoon the Chuckers faced the host Aldergrove Dodgers Red team, winning this time by a 6-3 score.  Despite giving up only two hits, Richmond entered the 7th inning down by a 3-2 score.  Again the Chuckers dug deep, scoring four times in the top half of the inning to earn their second come-from-behind victory of the tournament.  The win guaranteed Richmond a first place finish in pool B and a crossover game on Sunday.

In the crossover game Richmond faced a game Vancouver Minor team.  Minor jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first and lead 9-5 going into the 6th inning.  The Chuckers once again showed some character by scoring twice in the bottom of the 6th, then three more times in the bottom of the 7th to earn the walk off win and trip to the final.

After winning the other crossover game, the host Aldergrove Red team was waiting for the Chuckers in the final.   Richmond jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first and then thanks to some quality pitching and excellent defense, cruised to a 3-1 championship win.

All in all an excellent tournament performance by a wide variety of players on the Bantam Chuckers split squad roster.   Five wins in three days, three late ininng comebacks, and lot's of excellent team play highlighted a superb week of baseball.
