Bantam AAA Richmond Chuckers

Welcome to the website of the 2009-2016 Bantam AAA Richmond Chuckers.  We were originally established by head coach Alex Klenman in the fall of 2004 as the Richmond Red Sox, a high performance developmental baseball program for players ages 13-15.  We represented the Richmond City Baseball Association and the city of Richmond, BC, Canada, and played in BC Baseball's (Baseball BC) competitive 15U Bantam AAA division, at the time the top tier 15U wood bat league in BC.  In 2009 we changed our name to the Richmond Chuckers to align with our home association's branding goals.  We played a single-season league format from March through August that included several tournament appearances.

During our season we played teams from the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley, Vancouver Island, the BC Interior, and the USA.  Our typical season schedule consisted of approximately 40 league games, and 20 tournament and/or exhibition games.  Our season concluded with a Provincial Championship, and potentially with a trip to the Western Canadian Championships or the Canadian National Championships.

The program was designed specifically to prepare our players to move up to higher levels of play with the tools, skills, and attitude necessary to compete and succeed at that level and beyond.  We introduced a structured program to this age group that included off-season skill development sessions and regular fall ball programming.  We fielded a team in Bantam AAA every season since our innaugural 2005 campaign, with strong continuity in coaching and format.

For many of our players this was their introduction to the high performance baseball experience, and many of the players that have come through our program have gone on the play in the BC Premier Baseball League (the top rated high school league in Canada), as well as college and/or university baseball programs (see our Alumni list here).  Several of our alumni continue to be involved with the game in various capacities.

Player development was at the core of our team philosophy since day one.  We taught sound fundamental baseball and introduced our players to more advanced strategies.  We emphasized hustle, grit and determination on the field and exposed our players to quality coaching, high-level guest instructors and position-specific instruction.  Our program provided opportunities to compete in showcase tournaments and provincial team events and our players regularly competed for and earned roster spots at the BC Summer Games, Pacific Northwest Championships, Northwest Futures Tournament, the Arizona Fall Classic, and other showcase events.  Skill development, team play, and academics were important components of our program and all of our players were required to be supportive, positive teammates; to respect the game, opponents, coaches and umpires at all times; and to conduct themselves both on and off the field with class and respect.
