Alum Pidhaichuk Signs With Jayhawks
Posted July 27, 2013
Congratulations to Richmond Bantam AAA alumnus Ryan Pidhaichuk who is headed to the University of Kansas this fall on a baseball scholarship.
Ryan spent 3 1/2 seasons with our Bantam program, starting with the 2006 season as a Pee Wee-aged player (he is still the only underage player to earn a spot on one of our Bantam AAA rosters). He holds several team records and was a leader on the field in his time with us. He worked hard and never took an inning off, playing a gritty all-around game that earned him All-PNC honors with Team BC and a pick-up with Vancouver at the Westerns. Over the years he has come back to work with new crops of Bantam AAA kids in our program, always willing to give back a few hours of his time to help out a younger ballplayer coming up the ranks.
After his final season with us (2008) he moved on to the PBL and spent three seasons with the Whalley Chiefs before heading to play post-secondary baseball with the Prairie Baseball Academy in Lethbridge, Alberta. After coming back from an injury in his grade 12 season, he put up great numbers this year and impressed several US schools. Ultimately he signed with the University of Kansas, one of the top baseball programs in the NCAA. The Big 12 Conference is very competitive and has a history as a breeding ground for Major League Baseball. There were 38 former Big 12 players on opening day rosters this season.
Congrats to "RP", we're proud of his accomplishments!
